Safe grilling with gas

How to safely grill on gas?

SAFE GRILLING ON GAS

Many people who have never grilled with gas are a little afraid of using gas. As long as you follow the safety rules, nothing bad will happen. On this blog, we inform you about how to use your gas grill safely, what types of gas appliances we offer, and give you tips and advice!

GAS CYLINDER OR GAS CARTRIDGE?

The CADAC camping grills run on gas. You have the choice of a reusable gas cylinder or a (disposable) gas cartridge. A refillable gas cylinder naturally contains much more gas and therefore lasts much longer. On the other hand, it's quite big and heavy, so it's not very practical when you go camping.

However, if you have enough space in a motorhome, caravan or car and the weight does not matter, you should definitely reach for a reusable gas cylinder. You have the choice between a universal gas cylinder or a Campingaz cylinder. Universal gas cylinders come in a variety of shapes and sizes; made of metal or light fiber, of various brands and colors.

If you have less space, prefer not to take a heavy gas cylinder with you, go for a more compact and lighter alternative. Gas cartridges will be the best solution in this case. They are lightweight and can be thrown away immediately after use. Our CADAC camping grills can be used in conjunction with gas cartridges. CADAC gas cartridges are equipped with a standard, self-sealing safety valve with EN417 thread. You can unscrew them after use, even if they are not empty yet. If you want to grill again, simply screw the cartridge back onto the pressure regulator.

If you find that the cartouche is too small, but you don't want to take a heavy gas cylinder with you on vacation? The solution is the Power Pak: a lightweight device that combines the gas supply from 2 gas cartridges and replaces the standard pressure regulator.

WHICH PRESSURE REGULATOR SHOULD I CHOOSE FOR MY CAMPING GRILL?

You can connect a gas cylinder or gas canister to the grill with the gas pressure regulator. The pressure regulator ensures that your grill is always fed with gas at a good, constant pressure.

The choice of pressure regulator depends on the gas source you are using. The table below shows which pressure regulator you need for which type of gas supply.

HOW LONG CAN I GRILL WITH A GAS CARTRIDGE?

Another frequently asked question is how long will the grill run on a gas canister or gas cylinder. It depends on many factors:

  • The type of gas cartridge or gas cylinder used.
  • The type of grill used; a large grill naturally uses more gas than a small model as it often has a larger gas burner with a stronger flame.
  • Weather conditions; more gas is used in cold weather than in warm weather; you need more power (and therefore gas) for grilling.
  • Heat regulation knob settings; whether you are grilling on full throttle, medium or low settings. For simplicity, see the table below to see how long the grill has been operating for when using a cartridge or gas cylinder.

To give you an overview of gas cooking times from different sources, the most popular CADAC grills and how long on average they run on each gas source are listed in the table below.

FROZEN CARTRIDGES

Occasionally the cartouche may freeze. This usually happens when it is cold outside or when the gas consumption is very high. There is liquefied gas in the cartridge. Liquefied gas needs heat to become gaseous. This heat is extracted from the environment. When the gas is consumed very quickly and / or in large amounts, moisture may form on the outside of the cartridge which may then freeze. If the gas canister is frozen, turn off the grill and wait for the canister to heat up again. This problem can be eliminated by using the Power Pak.

Gas cartridges generally work well with an outside temperature of 10-15 ° C.
In the case of Power Pak, the temperature is 5-10 ° C.

30MBAR VS 50MBAR

In most EU countries, the standard gas pressure is 28–37 mBar. Our grills are adapted to this requirement and therefore should be used with a 30mBar gas pressure regulator. It is not included as standard with the grill. This is due to the fact that everyone has their own preferences regarding the type of gas source. We leave this choice to the customer. Depending on the selected type of gas supply, an appropriate regulator must be selected.

Standard gas pressure in Germany, Austria and Switzerland is 50 mBar. In Poland it is 28-37 mBar. Therefore, on our Polish website you can order only gas grills adapted to the gas pressure of 28-37 mBar. These grills should be used in conjunction with a pressure regulator 28–37 mBar.

IMPORTANT TIPS

We will now share a number of tips with you:

  • Make sure the gas cylinder / gas canister is always upright.
  • Gas appliances require ventilation to function properly; therefore only use the device outdoors.
  • Perform a gas leak test before using the grill. You will need soap and water to complete this: apply some soapy water to the gas hose fittings. If bubbles appear, there is a gas leak. In this case, immediately turn off the gas supply on both the grill and the gas cylinder. Then check all connections and perform the leak test again. If leakage persists, do not use the grill and contact your CADAC dealer.
  • Always shut off the gas supply from the gas cylinder first, and then the grill.
  • Are you using a Power Pak? Always connect the gas hose first before turning the tap, otherwise the safety device may be damaged.
  • Use the Quick Release coupler to quickly (safely) connect or disconnect the gas hose. With this handy connection, just click on the gas hose to turn the grill on / off. The Quick Release is also available with 2 couplers, so you can easily switch between multiple appliances such as patio heaters, cookers and outdoor kitchens.
  • Replace your gas pressure regulator and hose every 5 years!
